Scott Jaimet lives in Oregon. He grew up playing basketball in Indiana. He always wanted to teach his son to shoot but became very frustrated with the lack of knowledge on behalf of most coaches. They could teach the set shot and the bunny hop jumper but no one seemed to know how to teach the big time pull-up jump shot like he saw in the NBA. So he decided to figure it out. He knew that there must be some simple scientific principles that would apply, just as they do in all of the other sports. Scott first big shot of knowledge came from Dean Stepp, the coach at North Eugene H.S. in Oregon. Dean was very helpful and supplied much of the information found in the book. Dean’s son was Blake Stepp, All-American at Gonzaga. In addition to raising Blake, he also had many fine teams in Oregon, including the team that still holds the Oregon 3-point percentage record for the state tournament. Dean also had a high school team that shot 80% on free throws for a single season. This led to an odyssey across the United States. Most of the NBA players pictured in the book came from a visit to Steve Lipofsky in Boston. Steve was the long-time team photographer for the Boston Celtics. Scott visited with Chuck Person, shooting coach of the Indiana Pacers, who gave him some key tips. Kerry Rupp of Indiana University was instrumental in pushing the book forward. Kerry referred Scott to two professional coaches, Gary Boren of the Dallas Mavericks and Gerald Oliver of the Milwaukee Bucks. Both coach Boren and coach Oliver were active in reviewing the manuscript. Scott visited with coach Boren in Dallas. After four years of travel and study, Scott published the book. |
